Description
In a groundbreaking study published in Nature, Amil Merchant and Ekin Dogus Cubuk of DeepMind have utilized their AI tool GNoME to discover 2.2 million new crystals, with 380,000 being stable and potentially viable for future technologies. This discovery has the potential to drive research in various fields including superconductors, powering supercomputers, next-generation batteries and electric vehicles. The AI tool GNoME increases the speed and efficiency of discovery by predicting the stability of new materials. The 380,000 stable materials predicted by GNoME are promising candidates for experimental synthesis, with potential applications ranging from superconductors to rechargeable batteries. External researchers have independently created 736 of these new structures experimentally in concurrent work.
