Creative Commons, EleutherAI, Github, Hugging Face, LAION and Open_Future were the initial 6 signatories of an open letter entitled "Supporting Open Source and Open Science in the EU AI Act". In the blog post, Github give some background to this initiative. The open letter is also availble there.
